Shower Steamers

Shower Steamers

Shower steamers

These Shower Steamers (also known as Shower Fizzies) give a fantastic fragrance to your shower and can be a great and invigorating way to start the day, or a relaxing way to end the day.

The Steamers  are so simple to make – and you can store these for ages in an airtight jar.

You can make these in a large steel or plastic bowl and just need to be hand mixed.  You will also need a small steel or plastic bowl and some moulds.

Take the following ingredients;

2 cups                   Baking Soda

1 cup                     Citric acid

1 cup                     Cornflour or corn starch

3-5 teaspoons     Cold water

1 tablespoon       Fragrance – see below for suggested blends

1-5 drops             Colour – completely optional – as it may stain some showers!

Add Baking Soda to the large bowl and break up any lumps with a whisk; repeat with the Citric acid and the Cornstarch.  Mix until uniform.  Measure out the water into a small bowl and mix in the fragrance and any colour into the water.  Slowly dribble the liquid into the large bowl whilst whisking continually (do not add all the liquid at once, as the mixture will start reacting).  Start with 3 teaspoons of water and add more in if required to get the correct consistency. Mix until the mixture has the consistency of wet sand.  When compressed, the mixture should just retain its shape.

Next, pack the mixture into the mould hard, scrape off the excess and demould straight away, placing on a tray with baking paper and leave to dry for at least 2 hours.  Preferably somewhere with low humidity i.e. no steamy or damp areas.  Store in an airtight container until needed.

Some blends to try;

Invigorating Blend                          ½ tablespoon Sweet Orange Oil

½ tablespoon Frankincense Oil

Refreshing Blend                             ½ tablespoon Lime Oil

5 drops  Jasmine Oil

Relaxing Blend                                  1 tablespoon Lavender Oil

¼ teaspoon Chamomile Oil
